Frequently Asked Questions

Clear, honest answers to the questions patients ask most before their first visit and before starting any treatment.

Appointments and Consultations

What does a consultation with Dr. Khadija involve?

+

A consultation begins with a detailed discussion of your skin concerns, medical history, previous treatments, and goals. Dr. Khadija takes her time during this stage - she wants to understand the full picture before offering any recommendations.

She will then examine your skin and discuss her findings clearly. Any recommended treatment will be explained in full, including what it involves, what results are realistic, and what the process looks like. You are never pressured to proceed on the same day.

How do I book an appointment?

+

You can book by calling House of Skincare at +971 2 657 1000, by emailing hello@houseofskincare.ae, or by filling in the contact form on this website. Online booking is also available through houseofskincare.ae.

Where is the clinic located?

+

Dr. Khadija practices at House of Skincare, located at Water's Edge, Yas Island, Abu Dhabi. The clinic is open Monday to Friday from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM, and Saturday to Sunday from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM.

Do I need a referral to see Dr. Khadija?

+

No. You can book a direct consultation without a referral from another doctor. If you have existing medical notes or previous dermatology reports relevant to your concern, it is helpful to bring these to your appointment.

Medical Dermatology

What skin conditions does Dr. Khadija treat?

+

Dr. Khadija treats a wide range of skin conditions, including acne, hyperpigmentation, melasma, eczema, psoriasis, dermatitis, hyperhidrosis, and various other dermatological concerns. She also offers skin cancer screening and mole assessments. For a full list of services, see the treatments page.

How long does acne treatment take to show results?

+

It depends on the type and severity of acne, and which treatment approach is right for you. Topical treatments often begin to show improvement within 6 to 8 weeks. Oral medications or in-clinic procedures may produce results on different timelines. Dr. Khadija will set realistic expectations at your consultation and monitor progress throughout your treatment plan.

Is pigmentation treatment safe for darker skin tones?

+

Yes, when done correctly. Treating pigmentation in darker skin requires clinical experience and careful selection of treatments. Some approaches used for lighter skin tones can cause post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation if applied incorrectly to darker tones. Dr. Khadija has extensive experience treating patients with a range of skin types and adjusts her protocols accordingly. See our blog post on understanding hyperpigmentation for more context.

Aesthetic Treatments

What aesthetic treatments does Dr. Khadija offer?

+

Dr. Khadija offers Botox, RF microneedling (Potenza), mesotherapy, laser skin treatments, laser hair removal, chemical peels, HydraFacial, anti-aging therapies, and more. All aesthetic treatments begin with a consultation to ensure the right approach for your individual skin type and goals.

How natural will my results look with Botox?

+

Dr. Khadija's approach to Botox is deliberately conservative. The goal is always a refreshed, natural appearance - not a frozen or overly altered look. She discusses expectations thoroughly during your consultation and takes a step-by-step approach, which allows results to be built gradually and adjusted over time.

What is the Potenza RF Microneedling treatment and who is it for?

+

Potenza is an RF (radiofrequency) microneedling device that combines fine needles with radiofrequency energy to stimulate collagen production at depth. It is effective for improving skin texture, reducing pore size, addressing acne scarring, and treating mild skin laxity. It is suitable for most skin types and has minimal downtime. Dr. Khadija will assess whether it is the right option for your concern at your consultation.

General Skin Health

How often should I have a skin check or dermatology consultation?

+

For most patients, an annual skin check is a sensible baseline. Patients with active skin conditions, a history of skin cancer, or significant sun exposure may benefit from more frequent check-ins. The right frequency depends on your individual situation - Dr. Khadija can advise based on your skin history and concerns.

Is sunscreen important all year round in the UAE?

+

Yes, without exception. UAE UV levels remain high throughout the year, even on overcast days or in winter months. Daily SPF use is one of the most impactful things you can do for your skin health in this region - it reduces the risk of skin cancer, prevents and slows pigmentation, and is the most evidence-supported anti-aging measure available. SPF 30 minimum; SPF 50 is recommended for daily UAE conditions.

What should I look for in a sunscreen for UAE skin types?

+

Look for broad-spectrum protection (UVA + UVB), SPF 50 or above, and a formulation that suits your skin type - lightweight and non-comedogenic if you are acne-prone, more hydrating if your skin tends to be dry. Consistency is the key. The best sunscreen is the one you will actually apply every day.
